Inspection windows allow you to check the status of your bees without opening the hive. Each glass window is covered with an inspection door with cedar insulation attached. The two doors are held in place with spring toggle clamps. Please note that bees inside the hive live in total darkness. The windows should only be used for quick inspections, and should NEVER be left open.
Although we offer inspection windows as an option, we do advocate the use of them. Bees in the wild do not have windows into their world. The use of windows is only beneficial to the beekeeper and NOT the bees.
A study carried out by an American hive manufacturer has proven that bees abscond more in hives that have viewing windows as opposed to none.
